Photo reviews

Photos and experiences shared by contributors. Read below how we check submissions.

How reviews and confirmations work

We ask contributors to share a photo they took and their own experience. Reviews go through automated checks. Flagged reviews can be assessed manually. Approval is not a guarantee that a photo is unedited or free of AI generation.

  • Email address confirmed means the link sent to that address was used. It does not prove a purchase or the identity of a person.
  • Company management confirmed relates to access to this company page. A paid plan does not verify individual reviews.
  • A review invitation does not independently prove a purchase. An order reference supplied by a company is not independent purchase verification either.
  • Publishing a photo with a review does not automatically permit reuse in marketing. A subscription does not grant that permission either.

Founded in 2008 by Mark Coker, Smashwords was built on the premise that writers should be able to reach readers without first passing through traditional publishing gatekeepers. The store caters primarily to readers who seek independent, self-published fiction and non-fiction across a wide range of genres, including content not typically found in mainstream retail channels. All ebooks sold through Smashwords are DRM-free, meaning buyers can read their purchases on any device or application without restriction. The platform sits in the accessible price segment, with close to 100,000 titles available for free on any given day.
